At Provost Studio, we’re pushing the boundaries of content creation with Extended Reality (XR) and volumetric environments—transforming traditional broadcast and video production with immersive, architecturally inspired digital sets.
Through Studio X, our specialized XR content creation team, we design virtual production spaces using LED volumes that merge the physical with the digital. This innovative approach allows us to create environments where augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and extended reality (XR) seamlessly blend together, offering limitless possibilities for broadcast, video production, and brand experiences.

Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term that encompasses technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR), blurring the boundaries between physical and virtual environments. XR allows for the integration of LED volume stages, green screens, and other digital tools to extend the physical world into fully immersive, interactive spaces. Through volumetric capture, we create 3D environments where real-world textures, materials, and lighting are seamlessly blended with digital content, providing audiences with a more immersive and engaging experience.
By combining architectural design with scenic production, XR and volumetric environments offer endless possibilities for storytelling, transporting audiences
into rich, emotionally resonant worlds that feel both authentic and dynamic.
This approach is especially valuable in industries like broadcast, sports, and entertainment, where the demand for high-impact, immersive content continues
to grow.
Our unique advantage at Provost Studio is that we’re not just content creators—we’re architects and designers. We leverage our architectural expertise and sensibility to ensure that every virtual space we design feels authentic, emotionally engaging, and seamlessly integrated with its physical counterpart.
Here’s how we stand out:
1. Unified Creative Control: Future scenic environments “sets” will increasingly combine both physical and virtual elements, making it critical for a single creative team to oversee both. At Provost, we ensure there’s no disconnect between the physical and digital worlds by designing both the practical “physical” set and the digital “virtual” environment as a cohesive, unified vision.
2. The Power of Place-Making: Our architectural approach ensures that our virtual sets aren’t just backdrops—they’re spaces that are carefully crafted to evoke emotion, context, and meaning. We use fundamental architectural design tools like material relationships, spatial juxtaposition, dramatic lighting, textures, and scale to create a true sense of place. These principles ground viewers in the environment, enhancing both the content and the brand story.
3. Immersive, Interactive Design: XR technology enables real-time interaction between actors, audiences, and the environment. Unlike traditional green screen technology, LED volumes allow for real-time visualization, letting performers and viewers engage with the digital content as it happens.
4. Architectural Language: By employing the same creative process in “virtual”
as we do “physical”, we explore themes like space, circulation and atmosphere, we ensure that virtual sets are just as dynamic and engaging as their physical counterparts. This approach provides a richer, more emotionally resonant experience for the audience, amplifying the impact of the virtual content.
As part of our ongoing efforts to lead in XR technology, Provost Studio has partnered with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for an innovative course, “Exploring XR Technology – Virtual Environments & Immersive Experiences.” This SCADPro class, launching in Winter Term 2025, will allow students to explore and push the boundaries of XR content creation.
Through hands-on projects, students will create groundbreaking XR environments, focusing on industry-specific challenges in sports, financial services, and healthcare. The class will serve as a dynamic learning experience for students while also providing Provost Studio with valuable insights into emerging XR applications across these sectors.
At Provost Studio, we have always been at the forefront of blending architectural “placemaking” with innovative content creation, and our expertise in Extended Reality (XR) takes that vision to the next level. In the not-so-distant future, as digital visualization tools (such as Unreal Engine and others) continue to evolve and become more advanced, the boundary between the “physical” and “virtual” will become virtually indistinguishable. In some regards, we’re already there. By blurring the lines between physical and virtual spaces, we design environments that do more than support your brand’s message—they immerse audiences within it.
Whether it’s for commercial television studios, sports facilities, corporate video content studios, or immersive brand experiences, our approach integrates cutting-edge technologies like LED volumes and volumetric capture with a deep understanding of spatial design and storytelling.
